How to judge whether the brake pads of Petrol Car should be replaced?

2026 04/09

Generally speaking, the replacement cycle of front brake pads is 30,000 kilometers and the replacement cycle of rear brake pads is 60,000 kilometers. The maintenance intervals specified by Geely Car manufacturers of different models are not exactly the same. The specific replacement period shall be subject to the requirements of the Geely Car manufacturer.

Compact Car Geely Binrui

1. Thickness: The thickness of new Geely Car brake pads is generally about 1.5cm on both sides, and the friction thickness will gradually become thinner with use. When observing the thickness of the Geely Car brake pad with the naked eye, only 1/3 of the original thickness (about 00.5cm) remains on the left and right sides. Owners should increase the frequency of self-inspections and be prepared to replace them at any time. Due to the wheel hub design, some models do not have the conditions for visual inspection and need to remove the tires to complete.
2. Feeling intensity: When braking on the road, if it feels difficult, there is always a soft feeling, and it is often necessary to step on the brakes deeper to achieve the previous braking effect. When emergency braking clearly feels that the pedal position is low, it may be a Geely Car. The brake pads have basically lost their friction and need to be replaced at this time, otherwise a serious accident may occur. In addition, the reduction in braking effect will lead to an increase in brake oil consumption, so the brake oil should be checked when replacing the brake pads.
3. Listen to the sound: If there is "iron rubbing against iron" when gently braking, the Geely Car brake pads need to be replaced immediately, silky sound or noise (it may also be the running-in of the brake pads at the beginning of installation). Since the limit marks on both sides of the brake pad directly rub against the brake disc, it proves that the brake pad has exceeded the limit. There is a prominent mark on both sides of each brake pad, and the thickness is about 2 or 3mm, which is also the replacement limit for thin brake discs. If the thickness of the brake pad is parallel to this mark, it needs to be replaced. Therefore, when the thickness of the brake pad is close to this mark, the owner should always observe and prepare, but it is difficult to observe accurately with the naked eye without disassembling the tire. It is recommended to go to a 4S shop or regular repair shop for inspection to determine whether it needs to be replaced.
4. Check the warning light: Check whether the brake warning light on the instrument panel lights up as the basis for judging whether to replace the brake pads. Some Petrol Car have brake warning lights. Generally speaking, the brake warning line only has the front brake pads. When the warning light comes on, it is quite dangerous to replace it at this time. Since some warning systems directly sense the thickness of the brake pads on Petrol Car, some will illuminate a warning light when the brake pads on Petrol Car are completely worn, thus reducing the brake fluid limit.
If it is the latter, when the warning light comes on, the metal base of the brake pad and the brake disc are already in a state of iron grinding. At this point, you will see bright iron cuts near the edges of the tires. Therefore, we recommend regularly checking the brake pads for wear to see if they are serviceable, rather than just trusting the warning light.
